Experience Design Director

  • We are looking for an Experience Design Director with a deep and broad knowledge of UX principles, methodologies and techniques to lead our growing experience design team in the consumer-facing web content space. The successful candidate will have substantial cross-sector experience delivering market-leading solutions for major brands, and will have expertise covering digital experience strategy, user research, information architecture, UX design, usability and stakeholder management. Knowledge of the Telco and Insurance spaces in particular would be advantageous. 

    As an Experience Design Director, you will be responsible for leading teams across multiple projects, ensuring the delivery of high quality assets that meet the requirements of the brief. Your focus will be on managing, inspiring, shaping, and reviewing the work of up to 20 interaction and visual designers, but you will be required to be hands-on when necessary. You will run collaborative reviews and design surgeries, and provide creative direction, mentorship and coaching to the designers reporting to you. 

    You will also be responsible for supporting our Client Services team in the day-to-day management of client expectations, and will collaborate closely with our management team on preparing and presenting pitches to prospective customers.

    The Role

    • Drive design project delivery by leading and managing a team to fulfill the clients requirements and objectives, within agreed timescales
    • Represent the User Experience team in new business opportunities alongside Engagement Managers, Company Directors and Practice Leads (and deputies) by attending new business meetings talking through RMA’s approach
    • Provide thought leadership to RMA, the User Experience industry, and other sector-based or product domains
    • Develop the Experience Design practice, by mentoring UX team practitioners in UX skills, consulting approaches, client engagement tactics
    • Continue building a world class Experience Design team by identifying needs, developing the skills and abilities of existing team members, and recruiting new permanent and contract personnel

    The Person

    • You have worked in the consumer-facing sector on content-driven web site and web application design
    • You have created, evolved and documented UX processes and methods within a project or organisation
    • You have been responsible for delivering a wide range of high quality assets and documentation under pressure
    • You will have proven customer-facing skills, working with clients across all stages of an engagement; pitching the value of user-centred design, understand ing needs, eliciting requirements, co-creating designs, negotiating design decisions, and managing project sign-off
    • You will be an expert user of industry-standard tools such as the Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Axure, etc.
    • You are passionate about design, and are an exceptional communicator, in writing and on your feet in front of an audience
